Tares is a type of weed which resembles wheat (corn).  A farmer can usually and regularly weed his lands so that the wheat grow better and at the harvest the wheat is clean and the price is higher.  But when tares grow in the field the farmer cannot weed it out because it is not possible to distinguish the tares from the wheat - until they are ripe and it is time for the harvest.
